Unlocking Climate Ambition Through Nature-Based Solutions

Natural Strategies supports the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of the Philippines in integrating Nature-based Solutions (NbS) into the country’s 2025 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.

Natural Strategies Director Alexander Koch serves as International NbS Advisor, working to mainstream ecosystem-based approaches across key emitting sectors - agriculture, energy, transport, waste, and industrial processes. By assessing sectoral policies and climate actions, consulting stakeholders, and identifying scalable opportunities, he helps strengthen the climate ambition of the 2025 NDC while delivering co-benefits for biodiversity, livelihoods, and resilience.

The assignment also explores innovative financing mechanisms - such as blended finance and nature performance bonds - to help mobilize investments in NbS at scale. The resulting policy recommendations provide sector-specific guidance for incorporating nature into national mitigation strategies in line with international best practice.
