Analyzing deforestation in Guyana

Natural Strategies' Director Alexander Koch co-developed the draft strategic framework for the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment of Guyana.

Natural Strategies led the section on the forest sector. This included analyzing Guyana’s land-use planning, governance and monitoring; drivers and spatial trends of deforestation including mining, agriculture, forestry and infrastructure; the country's strategies and measures to respond to such trends; and projections on deforestation risks, including in light of the Guyana–Norway REDD+ agreement. It also included formulating options for the strategic plan to further strengthen Guyana’s land use planning/regulation and zoning; support community forestry and indigenous rights; improve forest monitoring; and strengthen compliance and capacity in the mining sector.
