Natural Strategies Awarded
Contract with
Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Development
The Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Development is a
multi-stakeholder coalition established in 1997 to develop
and implement an action plan that will
lead to a more sustainable San Francisco Bay
Area. Natural Strategies and
Applied Survey Research have been chosen
to support the Alliance in creating the Bay Area’s
first ever Sustainability Report. The
Report is based on progress toward
sustainability as defined by “The Draft
Compact for a Sustainable Bay Area.”

Natural Strategies Promotes
Market-Based
Reclamation of Mined Lands Natural
Strategies is working in a joint partnership with the
Electric Power Research Institute
(EPRI), Federal Office of Surface Mining
(OSM), and the Department of Energy
(DOE) to promote a market- based approach to
reclaiming mined lands through reforestation
and other methods. This
approach is based on the emerging field of eco-asset
management, in which ecological resources (such as
forests, wetlands, and endangered
species) are developed and treated as
financial assets to their owners. The benefits
of a market-based approach include
higher quality reclamation, an increase in the
number of sites reclaimed, and economic
benefits to property owners and other
participants. To read more
