ISO 14001 and THE
NATURAL STEP:
GUIDANCE DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE
As many of you know, companies are now enhancing
traditional environmental management systems (EMSs) so that they address sustainability.
These sustainability management systems (SMSs) are more closely tied with business
strategy, address global issues in addition to local plant issues, and lead to better
environmental and business decisions. We have been involved in the design of these
sustainability management systems (SMSs) for a number of years now, using The Natural Step
(TNS) Framework as a guiding tool, and are pleased to make available, the following new
publications:
"The Natural Step and ISO 14001: Guidance on the
Integration of a Framework for Sustainable Development into Environmental Management
Systems,"
By Edward Rowland and Christopher Sheldon
We collaborated with our friends at TNS-UK to produce this
detailed, clause-by-clause examination of the implications of integrating TNS and ISO
14001. Especially useful for companies seeking certification and for ISO 14001 auditors.

WHAT IS NEEDED TO
ACCELERATE
SUSTAINABILITY? READ SPEECH
BY SUSAN BURNS
What do sustainability leaders need now to accelerate
sustainability? We've described the ecological challenge and have powerful frameworks for
thinking about solutions. What we need now is for all of us to roll up our sleeves and get
on with the difficult work of making it happen. This will require excellent communication
and collaboration skills because the people we need to enroll may not share our
perspective. Read more in Susan Burns's recent speech by clicking here.
